Car Loan

Getting a car loan may sound like a daunting process, but it can be quite straightforward. All you have to do is take care of a few things beforehand and keep a couple important factors in mind, and you’ll be all set to pick out your next Anderson ride! Victory Honda of Muncie has outlined all the steps you should take before, during, and after the loan process below. Read on, then head to our dealership finance center to get started!

The Car Loan Process

Before starting the official process of getting a car loan, there are a few steps you should take:

  • Check your credit history. This is one of the first things that finance lenders look at and it heavily affects what kind of loan you can get. Check your latest credit report before you do anything else, and use it to calculate your credit score. If you find that your credit score is too low (think 600 or lower), think about taking some time to improve your credit before continuing with the loan process.
  • Calculate what you can afford. It’s a good idea to calculate how much you can afford to pay per month, in loan payments but also in fees, taxes, gas, and maintenance. This will give you a better idea of what kind of car to expect at the dealership.
  • Get pre-approved. You can do this with our easy online form – it doesn’t affect your credit score, and you can get a general sense of what kind of loan you’ll receive.

From there, these are some steps you should keep in mind for the car loan process:

  • Look at different lenders. It’s a good idea to keep your options open and consider a few different finance lenders. You can still end up going through your dealership, but it’s helpful to be able to compare quotes to get a sense of what you’ll be paying.
  • Apply for financing. Our finance center can give you more information about this, but financing is the main part of the car loan process. Before applying, make sure you have your social security number, current and previous addresses, employment information, and credit information.
  • Calculate your budget. Based on the pre-approval offer you get, you can build your loan budget based on factors like trade-in value, down payment amount, and taxes.
  • Pick out a car!
  • Finalize the loan. Be sure to read the contract carefully just to make sure there’s nothing unexpected like hidden fees or add-ons.
  • Make your payments on time. Now that you’ve taken your car out to the Fishers streets, there’s only one thing left to do: make your payments on time. It’s important to always make on-time payments to keep your credit score positive. You can usually set up automatic payments if you don’t want to have to remember to make a payment each month.
